On a beautiful, serene late afternoon the Neill McAllister docks a ship at the Girard Pt. refinery on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River. It hasn’t always been so serene here: in 1975, eleven years after the Neill was built, it was the site of a massive and nearly catastrophic fire that claimed the lives of eight of Philly’s bravest before it was finally brought under control. It get’s easily taken for granted, but we work around and with some very dangerous stuff. Be careful out there.
