Photo Of The Week – 2/22/10

Wrapping up the headline: originally named Glenwood and built at the Ira S. Bushey & Sons Shipyard in Brooklyn, NY in 1965 for their own Red Star Towing Co., the name was changed to Cheyenne in 1970. Still going strong at 45, Cheyenne is seen here making up to and moving a scow at a construction job at the Amoco-Carteret terminal on the Arthur Kill. This type of tug is known as a canal boat, designed with a  short funnel and a wheelhouse that lowers hydraulically (to the bottom of the windows) to allow them to fit under the low bridges of the New York State Barge Canal.
